This course is designed to teach the student basic interviewing skills utilizing proven questioning techniques coupled with an awareness of common behavioral responses. Nonverbal and verbal communication is discussed at length. Emphasis is placed on planning the interview (determining objectives; selecting the proper time, place, and environment) in order to maximize the information received. An appropriate roadmap for the progress of the interview is taught, appropriate to any human resources application. The course also discusses how to formulate good questions, determining the role of each interviewer when using a team of two to conduct an interview, and appropriate techniques for taking notes. The cognitive interview technique is discussed with the intention of providing another mechanism to elicit complete and accurate information during an interview.
